Since 2005 till date, I have worked with individuals and groups with rhythm and the arts to address a host of objectives (both musical and behavioural) some of which are
- Arts for health and well being
- Drumming and mental well being
- Simply to learn a new instrument
- For fun and recreation
- For stress release, catharsis and reduction
- For therapy, therapeutic and corporate team building or training goals such as confidence, healing, self awareness, leadership, group cohesion, motivation
The journey has been unique, creative, challenging, eye-opening and very rewarding. I would have had it no other way. I recently spoke with Prajakta Albuquerque as a part of her latest podcast titled ‘MimamshaTalk’ over a 2 part video series. This video (and informative podcast) covers content very close to my heart. Part one covers my journey since 2005, how it all started, some highlights along the way and more. Part two of the video series covers some important points such as
- What is djembe and what is its scope of use / application?
- How is simply learning and playing the djembe different from facilitating group drumming sessions / drum circles?
- What does the future hold for Taal Inc.?
- My (super) band Taal Inc. & Friends, music releases and more
It is my life’s aim to show to people by example that drumming and health are connected. They are directly proportional to each other. The more you drum the more holistically healthy you are. Whether you are an individual looking to connect with yourself, looking for motivation and inspiration or a leader of a team at a large corporate; drumming will help you experience the ‘here and now’, drumming and arts based therapy interventions will help you address your teams need for team building activities to engage in; not just for a one-off session but over a period of time. That’s where true change happens.
People and groups today need regular doses of art to unplug, to recharge themselves. This in turn helps to be present and productive in other aspects of life. I hope these two videos give you an insight into my journey and also motivate you to take up something that you love and make time for it on a daily basis. No matter who you are, what you do, how old you are, open your hearts and let art into your lives. It will not lead you astray…
