What is a Drum Circle?
A drum circle is an activity where a group of people come together in a circle and, led by a facilitator, drum, sing and create music together using a wide range of percussion instruments.
As a part of our Community Arts series, this is an event where Taal Inc. invites members of the public to drum and create music together. It’s a stress buster, a great way to meet like-minded people and an opportunity to reconnect with your inner rhythm.
What do I need to be part of Taal Inc Community Drum Circles?
When was the last time you sang to your heart’s content? Or danced like nobody’s watching? Or tried your hand at a musical instrument completely new to you without any fear of judgment? We simply do not do any of these things often enough.
We at Taal Inc. bring music to each and everyone in the community and Taal Inc. community drum Circles are our little step towards bringing drums, rhythm and the sheer joy that they precede, into every single home. Through this simple yet marvelous recreational activity, we hope to not just introduce our community to a regular recreational music-making culture, but also to share the stress-busting, cathartic benefits that drumming and singing go hand-in-hand with.
You need not be a drummer or musician to be a part of our monthly sessions. If you have an instrument, bring it along else we will provide you with a drum/percussion instrument. Our community drum circles are free; that is to say that we follow the gift economy principle. There is no ‘fee’ for these sessions. The participants are encouraged to contribute whatever he or she feels like at the end of the session. Once we’ve covered our costs, the money raised through these sessions is used for our Art Talks program where we use art to enrich the lives of the underprivileged.
