And just like that we’ve reached the end of 2024. It seems like just yesterday that we were making our resolutions for the year full of hope and innocence. For all our sakes I hope that you all have taken small/medium sized/ big steps towards your goal. It’s all about movement. I personally keep wondering about the point of all of this. When I started this work back in 2005, I remember
- A much younger me
- Lots of pure and unadulterated energy
- Lots of students wanting to learn percussion
- Lots of ignorance in the market about what drum circles are
- Hence, a fertile market to introduce this activity in
- Immense confidence and no insecurity about how this would all turn out
- Faith in the fact that I would attract the right people to join me in this journey
- Group drumming sessions for all kinds of groups from all over the country and globe.
And when I look back at all the sessions we’ve done, all the rhythm and smiles we have spread, I remember why I started Taal Inc. in the first place. Today, things are very different. There are many companies doing this work and so there is a lot more awareness of what drum circles are and what they are not. Even though the atmosphere that I work in today has changed, the core of what I do has not changed. Every day, I am given the privilege of working with a group of people for a short or long period of time to journey with and explore something new about ourselves using rhythm as our vehicle. Of course, I may have been on this journey many times but my group has not. They may have insecurities, doubts and blockages about their own abilities and potential. I am entrusted with the task of helping them rediscover their inner child, their inner drummer and unleash their inner potential. This is something I will always be grateful for.
So in the spirit of gratitude and humility, let’s look back at 2024, at all the drum circles, group drumming activities, drumming team building sessions, wedding drum circles, private drumming events, djembe classes, percussion workshops, interactive group drumming sessions we’ve done. Let’s smile together, reminisce, be nostalgic and thankful for a year well spent. Let’s be hopeful for all that awaits us in 2025. And most importantly let us be kind, supportive and tolerant of each other this new year. Why? Because we are all fighting battles that you may know nothing about. All we can do is be kind, empathetic and compassionate. And with this message, I will leave you to enjoy with your friends, family and loved ones as you usher in the new year. Sending you all advance wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As always…,
