You may or may not have attended a Drum Circle with us. If you have you know how magical this Healing Drum Circle experience is and if you haven’t you can probably assume how it might be and think of a number in your head as to how many people can drum at the same time afterall. 50? 500? 1000? You’re probably right but that’s still far from the biggest number of people we’ve drummed with.
Let me take you back a few years. To the Largest Drum Circle In The World. Yes, you read that right. The largest one. The year was 2013 and the occasion was The International Day Of Peace. The lovely people at DSK Toyota were kind enough to sponsor the event and Cocoparra in Pune happily provided the venue. Now this special in Pune had 800 people drumming at the same time but that’s not the part that made it the largest drum circle in the world, the part that does is the fact that this event was in collaboration with many other group drumming communities in the world and they were all drumming at the same time making it one massive Drum Group. Thousands of people across the world gathered on international day of peace to drum together and create powerful healing vibrations around the globe.
You might be wondering how an activity like group drumming which makes so much noise can be a symbol for world peace. Well, one of the reasons why is that the act of group drumming is a healing one and Drum Circle Therapy is something that’s been widely accepted as something that helps in anxiety and stress and the other reason is a story that’s quite personal to me. A few years ago, I was facilitating a Drum Circle with about 300 people with everyone drumming with all their might and singing on top of their voice and in the participants was a young couple with a baby just a few months old. I was absolutely surprised to see the baby sleeping like it’s sleeping in its cradle like it was the most peaceful place in the world and that experience helped me realise the fact that when the rhythm of a drum circle reaches a point of perfect synchronisation, it’s the most peaceful and healing sound in the world.
